APE SCHOOL’S BIOGRAPHY OF LIFE:
My name is Michael Johnson. Over the course of the last decade I have made/played music with a number of notable musicians and bands, among them Lilys, Holopaw, Human Television, Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs, Daedelus, Nightlands, and so on.
This is my “solo” project of sorts, though I am aided and abetted by a cast of wonderfully hilarious young musicians, including members of Dr. Dog, Chubby Checker (!), The Extraordinaires and so forth.
My first LP was released through Ninja Tune/Counter Records in 2009 and failed to make much of a dent on this side of the pond. The video for “Wail To God” did make a dent, mostly in people’s brains. Google that and cry yourself to yourself.
I have recently completed work on a 2nd LP, to be entitled “Junior Violence”. It will be released to the world in late May/Early June through a lovely label in the Pacific Northwest TBA. It will tickle your earholes and push the limits of sarcasm. It is a rumination of the evolution of an unintentional jackass, AKA me. I apologize in advance, it’s all meant as a lighthearted apology. I don’t regret what I have done, but sometimes regret the method by which I did it.
